About Us

The American Red Cross, Southern Tier Chapter is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, which provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It does this through services that are consistent with its Congressional Charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross Movement. The mission of the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross is to promote the well being of citizens served and to assist them in attending a productive and meaningful life by offering services governed and provided by volunteers. The fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality guide the Red Cross in service delivery.

The American Red Cross was chartered by Congress in 1900. The Broome County Chapter was chartered in 1907 making it part of the pioneer group of Charters within the United States.
