New York Parks and Recreation now hiring Lifeguards for Summer 2009!
The Central Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will be conducting Qualification Procedures for candidates wishing to be considered for a New York State Lifeguard position in accordance with the schedule below.
Minimum qualifications are as follows:
- Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Course including Standard First Aid (or equivalent)
- Current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent) within 1 year of issue date
- Minimum of 20/40 uncorrected vision
- Minimum age qualification: 16 years
Central Qualifying Schedule
Saturday, April 4 - Oneonta High School - 10am
Saturday, April 18 - Jamesville Dewitt Middle School - 10am
Saturday, April 25 - Chenango Forks High School - 10am
Candidates not employed in 2008 as NYS Lifeguards must bring identification and be fingerprinted - fingerprinting procedures begin at 9am. Candidates must bring a pocket mask to the exam. Preregistration is required and should be received 2 weeks prior to requested exam date.

Many area camps, colleges, parks, and town park and recreation departments also offer lifeguard training.
