Busy Start to Disaster Season Strains Red Cross

At 2:45 am on Oct 28th, Red Cross volunteers responded to a fire in Sidney Center that severely damaged a home, displacing 9 people who were provided temporary shelter, clothing and groceries. That same night a family of two in Bainbridge, whose home sustained fire damage, received assistance with seasonal clothing and groceries. And, another young woman with a baby lost her home in Mt. Upton. In addition to temporary housing assistance, the Red Cross provided her with food, clothing, infant supplies and as in all cases, referrals to other agencies for more resources. Read more...

October 16, 2008 - This September the Southern Tier Chapter launched its first annual "Community Preparedness Day" series. The events took place each Saturday for five weeks throughout September and the beginning of October across the Southern Tier and included Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Otsego and Delaware counties. New Energy Assistance Program Announced

October 8, 2008 - The American Red Cross, Southern Tier Chapter and NYSEG recently announced a new energy assistance program funded by a $500,000 contribution from NYSEG which goes one step further than Project Share in helping people who need energy assistance. Read more...
